The CalDigit TS5 Plus (the flagship TS5 variant — the base TS5 has no native HDMI or DisplayPort at all) routes video only through its Thunderbolt 5/DisplayPort 2.1 ports; HDMI requires a third-party adapter in a spare Thunderbolt port, and CalDigit's own manual notes that HDMI adapters cap out at 4K60 on every Apple Silicon Mac from M1 through M4 (their Thunderbolt controllers only support HDMI 2.0b). External monitor count again depends on chip: base M1/M2/M3 Macs get one display, Pro/Max and M4 Max chips get more, up to dual 8K60 on an M4 Max Mac or a Thunderbolt 5 Windows PC. Thunderbolt 3 Windows laptops are explicitly not supported by CalDigit.

HDMI is adapter-only and capped at 4K60 on every Apple Silicon Mac (M1-M4). External monitor count depends on chip: M1/M2/M3 base get 1 display, Pro/Max and M4 Max get more, up to dual 8K60 on M4 Max or a Thunderbolt 5 Windows PC. Thunderbolt 3 Windows PCs are not supported. On Windows specifically, independent hands-on testing (80 hours across 6 hosts) found the second monitor sometimes fails to connect over Thunderbolt 5 if the host initializes its controller before the dock's MST hub is ready — reproduced on a Dell Precision 7780 and a Lenovo ThinkPad P1 Gen 7; a MacBook Pro M3 Max handled the same handshake correctly every time.
