Sabrent USB Type-A or Type-C to 5-Gigabit Ethernet Adapter (NT-SS5G)
This is what matters about Sabrent USB Type-A or Type-C to 5-Gigabit Ethernet Adapter (NT-SS5G).
About
An Aquantia-based 5Gbps adapter sharing the same USB host bottleneck as other 5GbE adapters in this class, capped around 3.5Gbps sustained. Idles at roughly 5W bus-powered draw, rising further under load — a poor fit for battery-powered handhelds regardless of network throughput.
Ports: 1× Ethernet (5GBASE-T) and 1× USB-C / USB-A
Confirmed with
- Notebook (generic)
Confirmed used with a ThinkPad Z16 on Linux (Kubuntu), but the user explicitly reports it "gets REALLY hot" and "has not been very reliable." Manufacturer confirms it falls back to 1GbE on Apple Silicon (M1/M2), and a documented VLAN tagging bug drops throughput to near zero when any VLAN ID other than 0 is configured.
